Växjö international dogshow (CACIB)

We went to the dog show in Växjö with Nola and Evi. Our first international dog show!

First Impression

Växjö is about an hour and a half drive for us, so it's relatively close. The location was easy to find and the parking was ample. Payment at the parking lot didn't go entirely according to plan because the app didn't work, so we waited a long time in the parking lot. We arrived a bit late, the cocker males had already started. There was still plenty of space near the ring, but unfortunately, we had less of a good view of the ring. I have also been to international shows in the Netherlands, as a visitor, and my first impression is that this show is not enormously large. I actually find that nice. Maybe it's because the breeds are spread over three different days.

Nola

Nola did great in the open class. When we stepped into the ring, she looked me in the eye and made sure I put my nerves aside, so for the first time, I could really enjoy the show ring. Nola did great and I have the feeling that we are a good team. Unfortunately, the judge thought differently and she received the rating ZG. Still, I am very proud of the progress we are making and we received nice judge critiques:

"Female bitch, with a sturdy body, slightly round in the skull, sufficient neck, could have more rise in the front, good width in the chest, falling in the croup, beautiful low hock, moves with good stride length, nicely shown, excellent groomed coat and coat quality, lovely temperament." Judge: Christina Daniels

"Nola and Evi's class were at the same time, in a different ring."

Evi

Evi's class was moved to a different judge in a different ring. I wasn't so happy about that. It happened to be that Evi and Nola's classes were at the same time. So when I left the ring with Nola, I just had enough time to prepare Evi, but not to walk around and get used to the hustle and bustle calmly. Both Evi and I were therefore a bit extra tense. Not a good start, then. The judge didn't take much time to examine the puppies in detail, it felt like he had already made a decision when we stepped into the ring. Evi did well, placed third in the puppy class, and received good judge critiques:

"Correct bite, could have more stop and angulation, correct head proportions, good neck, topline, croup, angulation and tail behind, correct coat, good feet and legs, moves well" Judge: Francesco Cochetti

After the ring, we walked around the booths with the dogs. It was a good day, a nice atmosphere amongst each other, and I am very proud of how we did! I enjoy seeing that we are starting to know and recognize some people at the show, and I am grateful for how we are welcomed by other cocker owners in the show world.
